PLASA “thrilled” with success of first Focus

UK: Unaudited statistics reveal that 1,398 visitors attended the two-day event in Leeds last month, writes David Davies. Established to supersede the A.C. Lighting North Trade Show, which was acquired by PLASA in 2007, PLASA Focus: Leeds took place at The Royal Armouries on April 28 and 29.

Billed as an informal two-day event providing an opportunity "to find solutions and discover what’s new for 2009", PLASA Focus: Leeds featured more than 100 stands. Allen & Heath, Alcons Audio, KV2 Audio, Lab.gruppen, LOUD Technologies and Peavey were among the exhibitors at the event, which also featured an extensive programme of free seminars.

Reinforcing the show’s "truly regional emphasis", the unaudited statistics indicate that around 70% of visitors came from the north of England.

"We are thrilled with the results from PLASA Focus and the incredibly positive feedback we’ve received so far," says PLASA events manager Sophie Atkinson.

PLASA Focus: Leeds will return to The Royal Armouries in April 2010, while the Focus format may also be applied to other regional gatherings.

"Now we know that this format works, and is matching the needs of the industry, we will be exploring other regional opportunities and will remain in consultation with the PLASA membership and existing exhibitors to ensure we continue to produce events that the industry genuinely wants and needs," adds Atkinson.
