PLASA issues Gottelier Award nominations7 August 2007
UK: Funktion One’s Tony Andrews (pictured) is among the four contenders for the inaugural Gottelier Award, to be presented at this year’s PLASA exhibition. The announcement follows hot on the heels of last week’s news (covered in PSN-e 35) that an “overwhelming” proportion of PLASA members had endorsed a major restructuring initiative at the organisation’s 2007 AGM, writes David Davies.
Named in honour of celebrated lighting designer Tony Gottelier, who passed away last year, the new award is aimed at those individuals who have made “significant and sustained contributions to the advancement of entertainment, presentation or installation technology – whether in audio, lighting, rigging, staging or any other related field.”
Drawing on nominations gathered from across the industry, the shortlist features the aforementioned Andrews, High End Systems co-founder Richard Belliveau, ETC technical director Adam Bennette and Wayne Howell, founder of Artistic Licence and the creator of free Ethernet communication protocol Art-Net.
Everyone in the industry is now invited to cast his/her vote on the PLASA07 website (link below). The voting page will remain live until midday on Friday August 24th, and the winner will be revealed at the PLASA Awards presentation ceremony on Monday September 10th.
