PLASA 07: loud and clear, plus a console from Roland28 August 2007
UK: Nexo, Community Professional, KV2 and Turbosound are among the many manufacturers to be ensuring a high quota of new or recent loudspeaker launches at this year’s PLASA exhibition. Other notable firsts at the annual audio and lighting trade show will include the first joint exhibition appearance by the recently-merged MC² Audio and XTA Electronics, reports PSN-e.
New for Nexo will be the NXamp powered TD Controller – the first fruits of a collaboration with Yamaha announced to the trade two years ago – and the inaugural model in the company’s RS Subwoofer Series. Although designed in tandem with the Geo S12 Series of loudspeakers, the RS15 is also intended for use with other Nexo system elements.
Community Professional – exhibiting with UK distributor CUK Audio – will highlight, among other products, the all-weather R-Series, the new SONUS series, and the VERIS and iBOX installation loudspeakers. The latter series has recently been boosted by the Community i2W8, a two-way, full-range loudspeaker system designed to provide high quality music and voice reproduction in applications requiring smooth, ultra-wide, horizontal coverage.
KV2, meanwhile, will showcase EX6 – a compact speaker system designed for discreet installations or AV presentations – and the latest addition to the VHD range, the VHD 1.0 down-fill enclosure.
Other manufacturers that will be drawing attention to new or recent products include Logic Systems (the latest additions to the Ethos Array live sound product), Turbosound (new Aspect loudspeaker, TA-500t), Ohm (the HD-FM high-power stage monitor, among other items), Penton (new Pro-Sound Ceiling Loudspeaker range), QSC (the new Wide-Line-8 array system) and RCF (a number of new items, including the RCF Acustica P Series of coaxial weatherproof speaker systems).
Significantly, this year’s PLASA will also mark the first joint appearance by MC² Audio and XTA Electronics since their merger in March this year. While MC² Audio will be debuting the new E80 2-channel amplifier (4000W/channel into 4 ohms and 5500 Watts into 2 ohms), XTA will showcase the latest version of AudioCore, now possessing an enhanced feature set including Global Ganging. The new Walkabout kit with built-in RS485 conversion and external antenna will also be on show for the first time.
“The last six months have been incredibly busy and we have made a lot of progress in that time,” observed group managing director Ian McCarthy (pictured left with XTA technical director John Austin and MC² technical director Terry Clarke). “We are all very much looking forward to the PLASA show as it will give us the first opportunity to update many of our customers personally on developments and future plans.”
Finally – and rather tantalisingly – Roland Systems Group has announced a press conference, at which details of a major new digital console, the M-400, are expected to be released. No other details were forthcoming at press time. A live desk would mark a substantial extension of the commitment to the sound reinforcement sector repeatedly cited by Roland during the last 18 months. (Incidentally, an internet search for ‘M-400’ brought forth a beyerdyamic microphone and the most successful version of the Mellotron keyboard instrument…)
