Pinewood Studios, Studio Hamburg announce joint venture

test 23 February 2010

UK/GERMANY: The new operation will allow European and international filmmakers "to take advantage of their joint infrastructure and skills when producing feature films in Germany". As a result of the creation of Pinewood Studio Berlin Film Services, the two companies say that filmmakers will be able to make use of Studio Hamburg’s production and studio services in Berlin Adlershof (pictured) and Hamburg, as well as Pinewood Studios’ 75-year-history of experience in the creative industries.

The announcement confirms expectations that Pinewood would seek to propagate its enormously influential brand beyond the confines of the UK.

"I am delighted that we have reached a joint venture agreement with Studio Hamburg," comments Pinewood Studios Group CEO Ivan Dunleavy. "This is a further development in our international strategy to leverage the Pinewood brand and expertise globally to benefit both local markets and the UK creative industries. Studio Hamburg’s excellent stages in Berlin, coupled with Pinewood’s expertise and reputation in the film industry, will undoubtedly be an attractive offering to many European and international producers that favour the excellent skills base, varied locations and incentives available."

Studio Hamburg MD Dr Robin Houcken adds: "The joint venture offers international film producers new and cost-effective solutions for filming in Germany. We’re very pleased to have in Pinewood a partner that stands for quality, growth and, ultimately, a great cinema tradition."

An array of audio equipment is available at Studio Hamburg’s facilities. For example, studio E/F at the Adlershof site includes a 48-channel Stagetec Cantus console, Stagetec Nexus routing and Sennheiser microphones.
