The sound teams behind Interstellar, Birdman, American Sniper and Unbroken are nominated in both sound categories of the 87th Academy Awards, announced today.

The four films are joined by The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in the best sound editing category and Whiplash in the best sound mixing category.

Interstellar is also nominated for best original score alongside The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, Mr Turner and The Theory of Everything, while American Sniper and Birdman, starring Michael Keaton and Edward Norton (pictured), are up for best picture.

Last year’s Oscars ceremony saw Gravity take home seven awards, including for sound editing, sound mixing, score, visual effects and editing (see Gravity bags sound awards at Oscars).

PSNEurope announced earlier this week that Whiplash is also nominated for a Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) award (see AMPS reveals nominees for second awards).
