Orbital Sound takes d&b’s T-Series on the road17 March 2009
UK: Orbital has recently invested in more than 100+ units of d&b audiotechnik’s new T-Series loudspeaker system, reports David Davies. PSN-e has learnt that Orbital also has a further 50 units on immediate order. In the meantime, the company is putting its current inventory to work on three contrasting UK productions that are said to demonstrate the T-Series’ versatility both as a compact line array and a standalone point source system.
Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob Squarepants Live! features two hangs of 20 T10 cabinets each, configured as a conventional line array and complemented by three T-SUBs and a single B2 on each side.
The new UK tour of hugely successful musical Chicago features a 40-cabinet T-Series system that is designed to accommodate a wide variety of venues.
Finally, the Flamenco Festival – running until March 29 at London Sadler’s Wells – is using a total of 16 T10 cabinets and T-SUBs, configured as a mixture of vertical point-source standalone cabinets and horizontal mini line-array groups.
“The T-Series is quite simply a revolutionary concept,” said Orbital Sound’s managing director, Chris Headlam. “It represents a single box with multiple applications, giving us an unprecedented range of options from the one system. The design pedigree is impeccable – it is an incredibly advanced system sonically, combined with a unique degree of configurability that makes it an ideal tool for a rental company looking to contain and reduce the number of items held in its inventory. We have made a significant investment in the T-Series because of this, recognising its potential for both theatre touring and conference applications.”
Looking ahead, Orbital is planning to deploy T-Series units on a Malta/UK tour of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and the UK tour of Flashdance the Musical, among other productions.
