One million published samples and counting: VSL reaches new milestone

test 29 January 2008

AUSTRIA: Music software and sample library developer the Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) has revealed that, with the release of several new Download Collections, it has surpassed the one million published samples mark. According to VSL – which publicised the news at Winter NAMM – this is by some distance the largest accumulation of samples by a single company, writes David Davies.

Spread over 31 DVD and download collections, VSL offers a variety of options – from basic editions to high-end professional solutions – and encompasses a wide range of musical styles. The company has recently made a number of collections available for download, all of which are available from relevant section of the VSL web shop (link below).

The collections in question are Vienna Special Edition – Standard Libraries (comprising four collections: Strings, Woodwind, Bass and Percussion & More), Special Edition PLUS Libraries (featuring additional articulations of every Standard Library instrument), Overdrive (seven-string, total distortion guitar for “fluid solos and authentic power chords”), Vienna Concert Guitar, Upright Bass and Soprano Choir.

In other news, VSL has recently received its third Editors’ Choice Award from the editors of Electronic Musician magazine. The Vienna Special Edition triumphed in the category of Best Virtual Orchestra.
