PSNEurope April 2015

The April 2015 issue of the redesigned PSNEurope is now available to read online or download as a PDF.

In the first issue of the compact, new-look magazine, we find out why the Bel Digital-owned 4HM brand is soon to be no more; grill multi-award-winning Abbey Road engineer Andrew Dudman about Stephen Sondheim, The Lord of the Rings and – yes – Gravity; and announce, to absolutely nobody’s surprise, that the PSNEurope-hosted Pro Sound Awards – one of the highlights of the industry calendar – will return for a third outing this September, with lobbying open as of 15 April (the first day of Prolight + Sound). And speaking of Prolight + Sound, turn (or, y’know, click) to page 20 for a comprehensive preview of the Frankfurt show.

The new format (it’s A4-sized, doncha know) sees the return of ‘The Strategic Position‘ – a platform for “a ‘big’ interview with brands and characters who are really defining the future for our industry,” in the words of PSNEurope editor Dave Robinson – and the debut of a page of opinion by two guest columnists we’ve puntastically christened ‘Vocal Channel‘. (Also, the appointments page is now called ‘movers and shakers‘, because the positively non-puntastic ‘industry movers’ just wasn’t cutting it any more.)

In our cover story, Dave Robinson attends a rare concert by lesser-spotted Flood-led analogue synth collective Node, which married stacks of vintage modular synths with an ‘invisible’ Flare Audio rig fielded by Mustt Audio; Kevin Hilton gets his sea legs on the aurally demanding Volvo Ocean Race; and, in anticipation of the reinterment of everybody’s favourite murderous tyrant, Richard III, NoiseBoys discreetly overhauls the audio system at Leicester Cathedral.

Finally, in our two regularly scheduled features, David Davies pokes beneath the surface of RH Consulting’s report The Death of Analogue and Rise of Audio Networking to examine the extent to which Dante and its cohorts have truly begun to achieve mainstream crossover; and your correspondent explores, once again, the fast-moving world of pro-audio training.
