New, classic sounds embraced in AKG product launches

AKG used PLASA 2012 to launch a new line of headphones, designed by the world’s richest DJ, Tiësto. The “AKG by Tiësto” range of headphones comprises three models starting with the K67 Tiësto, followed by the K167 Tiësto and K267 Tiësto.   “AKG is rooted in the passion for music at the same time as having a unique eye for design and style,” said the DJ (pictured). “Together we’ve created a line of headphones that are perfect for those who want the best quality of sound, but don’t wish to compromise on style, whether you’re looking to mix in the studio, perform live or even listen when you’re on the move.”   Also launched at PLASA is AKG’s revamped D12 VR kick drum microphone. The original D12, created over six decades ago, was a first-of-its-kind and became a staple in television and radio studios around the world.   The D12 VR (vintage sound re-issue) offers a newly designed capsule, which enhances low-frequency performance. The vintage-style microphone features three active sound shapes for recording: open kick drum, closed kick drum and vintage sound, and is manufactured with the original AKG C414 transformer from the 1970s.   In addition to launching the PLASA launches, AKG are celebrating their 65th anniversary with a limited edition version of the classic K702 headphones and C451 microphones.   The K702 Anniversary Edition headphones feature a newly designed genuine leather headband and soft velour ear pads, patented Varimotion two-layer diaphragm and flat-wire voice coil.   AKG’s C451 65th Anniversary Edition condenser embodies the sound of the classic C451 EB with the CK1 capsule. Since its introduction in 1969, the C451 has been continuously improved and has demonstrated its durability under the harshest onstage environments.   “In our seventh decade of setting the industry standard, raising the bar in recording and live audio, AKG is proud to offer our dedicated customers an opportunity to help celebrate our milestone with the limited edition C451 and K702’s,” said Thomas Stubics, product marketing manager, recording and broadcast, AKG.     www.akg.com
