Mo’ Wax for JBL

test 6 January 2009

UK: Wax Jambu is a new concept bar venue on Upper Street in the London district of Islington, reports PSN-e. Run by experienced bar operators Jimi Pearce, Sara Nixon and Will Partridge, Wax Jambu is a 220-capacity late night music and cocktail bar.

Studio Output was enlisted to provide 2D graphic design, Julian Taylor Design Associates executed the interior fit-out, and CP Sound was enlisted to install a DJ and live playback system.

The resulting audio set-up is based primarily around Harman professional components. The main dancefloor is served by two flown JBL Control 28s, augmented by a floor-mounted JRX118 sub. For the Sunday acoustic gigs and planned world music nights, two AKG D88 vocal mics have been provided for musicians, to be mixed through a six-channel Soundcraft EPM6.

Upstairs, the system comprises a pair of JBL Control 25s to take feeds from downstairs, with a further six Control 25s distributed downstairs at the main bar and front-of-house. The entire system was optimised using dbx 231 and 223 processors.

CP Sound's Colin Pattenden commented: "We were recommended largely as a result of our reliable service and back-up. It's been a pleasure working with the operators, and we were also fortunate to be working alongside a good building team."
