Midas PRO6 for latest Pogues tour

test 25 December 2008

UK/EIRE: Shane McGowan’s legendary band took to the road for a pre-Christmas tour, reports David Davies. The 12-date trek – which took in shows in both northern and southern Ireland, Scotland and England – featured a Midas PRO6 Live Audio System, provided by HD Pro Audio, in the FOH position.

Meanwhile, Porcupine Tree/King Crimson engineer Ian Bond has acquired a PRO6 from UK distributor Shuttlesound.

The Pogues tour marked Paul Scully’s first Midas digital outing for long-time Midas analogue fan Paul Scully. “I felt this console was so intuitive, especially the EQ,” he commented. “The sound quality is the main thing for me, and I really like the fact that it has the Midas preamps. At the end of the day you’ve got to use your ears. This band plays a large amount of acoustic instruments, which can sound rather unnatural when using digital technology. But with the PRO6, all the instruments sound natural straight away. I also like the onboard compressors; on a log of digital desks you can see what the compression is doing technically, but you can’t actually hear it.”

All PA equipment – which also included a Klark Teknik DN9331 Rapide graphics controller – was provided by Entec Sound and Light, whose systems tech, Jules Hicks, is pictured here (left) with Scully.

In other news, Midas aficionado Ian Bond recently acquired a PRO6 Live Audio System (with the serial number 007) from UK distributor Shuttlesound. The system has already been out on the road with Marillion and Oleta Adams, and is scheduled to go out for more Marillion and Porcupine Tree shows in 2009.

Bond recently deployed a Midas XL8 for King Crimson’s first live shows since 2003. To read PSN-e’s coverage of this tour, click here.
