Midas and Klark Teknik ring the changes

UK/USA: The companies have altered their distribution arrangements in the UK, USA and Canada, writes David Davies. As of July 1, Midas Consoles North America is serving as the exclusive distribution channel for Midas and Klark Teknik in the USA and Canada, while UK distribution is being handled in-house at the firms’ Kidderminster HQ.

Along with Bosch, DYNACORD, Electro-Voice, RTS and Telex, Midas and Klark Teknik are both part of Bosch Communications Systems, which is a business unit of Bosch Security Systems.

According to Midas/KT sales and marketing director David Cooper, the changes in the UK will allow former distributor Shuttlesound to "free up valuable resources and focus on the Electro-Voice brand, so customers win all-round." However, the new approach will not prevent Shuttlesound from providing customers with multi-brand, EV/Midas/KT packages.

John Oakley, managing director of Midas/KT, tells PSN-e that this will be facilitated by employing "the same model as we have been using very successfully in China for more than a year now. Shuttlesound (and EVI China) will still offer Midas and KT items for use in systems sales but from the new distributor, just like any other systems integrator. In China, EVI China buy from Rightway Audio Consultants; in the UK, Shuttlesound will buy from the UK distributor, which happens to be the factory." Oakley confirms that the existing UK reseller structure remains unchanged under the new arrangement.

Former Shuttlesound employee Rob Hughes has joined Midas/KT to continue his role as UK sales consultant. "With the UK being one of the most influential markets in concert touring, it warrants direct access to the factory," said Hughes, pictured second from right with (l to r) Midas/KT colleagues David Cooper, Karl Brant and Richard Ferriday. "With this move, UK customers will have the direct support of not only me, but also Karl Brant and his service team, technical sales manager Jason Kelly and brand development manager Richard Ferriday, plus the factory demo facilities."

Simultaneously with the changes in the UK, Midas Consoles North America has become the exclusive distribution channel for Midas and KT in the USA and Canada. Based north of Los Angeles, Midas Consoles North America is a wholly-owned subsidiary of JAM Industries and is dedicated to the sales and after-sales support of Midas/KT products.

For David Cooper, the new set-up constitutes "a huge new chapter in our company history. It ensures that our present and future customer base in North America is offered dedicated, brand-oriented sales expertise and technical support. We believe that a focused, brand-led distribution channel is the best way of ensuring our already industry-leading support is maintained and then continually improved. Our aim is simple: to establish the XL8 and PRO6 as industry standards in the live performance sector across North America. We see this move as the means of making that happen."

The Midas Consoles North America sales team is being managed by long-time Midas/KT US sales chief Jay Easley. This continuation, noted JAM executive Lynn Martin, "will ensure we hit the ground running! We aim to offer seamless customer support during the transition."
