Michael Page joins Peavey to further MediaMatrix development5 June 2007
UK: The former lead engineer for Sony’s SuperMAC/HyperMAC technology, Michael Page, has been appointed to the role of senior hardware engineer for the Peavey digital research group. The position sees Page taking responsibility for the continuation and further development of MediaMatrix and NION, and follows the instigation of a separate UK R&D team for the technology earlier this year, writes David Davies.
As part of the five-strong, Charles Anderson-overseen MediaMatrix team at the purpose-built facility in Oxford, Page – who took up his new role on May 22 – is likely to be involved in some major new product developments in the near-future. Peavey Europe pro-audio sales and marketing manager Dave Bearman isn’t giving much away at present, but does concede: “We will see some things this year.”
“I am tremendously impressed with the capabilities of NION and with the endware software for it,” Page tells PSN-e. “There is a very, very strong starting point, and so I have been beginning to think about where we can take this technology in the future_ There are some amazing opportunities here.”
“We are obviously very fortunate to have got Michael to join us,” says Bearman. “I think we are both excited by the opportunities it allows us in moving forward, because he is obviously very well versed in network technologies and digital audio, and [that] was exactly what we were looking for. In fact, probably better than what we were looking for!”
While it’s seemingly full steam ahead for MediaMatrix, Page’s departure from Sony’s pro-audio lab near Oxford is likely to prompt further speculation about the latter operation’s future strategy in the UK – and, in particular, the development of AES 50 and the SuperMAC/HyperMAC technology. Sony’s presence in Oxford has been reduced considerably over the past year with the ‘spin-out’ of the chip development team (to become Oxford Digital) and, more recently, the MBO of the plug-in business that resulted in the creation of Sonnox.
