Meyer Sound’s MILO for Estonian song and dance event

test 6 November 2007

ESTONIA: A “massive” specification of Meyer Sound MILO high-power curvilinear array and M’elodie ultracompact high-power curvilinear array loudspeakers was specified to deliver a diverse bill of choral and instrumental music at the recent Estonian Youth Song and Dance Celebration. The extensive system was deployed by Tallinn-based Eventech, writes David Davies.

Held every five years, the event featured more than 35,000 participants this year, including 831 choirs, 127 dance groups, 47 orchestras, a 15,000-member children’s choir and a 200-piece brass band. Moving in a 3km procession, the dancers and musicians performed indigenous music to around 80,000 people – an enormous audience that required Eventech to hire in additional MILO cabinets.

For the main system, Eventech utilised a specification of left and right arrays featuring nine MILO high-power loudspeakers and one MILO 120 high-power expanded coverage curvilinear array loudspeaker per side, with 12 700-HP ultrahigh-power subwoofers in the centre. Six delay towers situated throughout the area employed 16 additional MILO boxes and an equal number of M’elodie cabinets. The entire system was driven by a Galileo loudspeaker management system utilising two Galileo 616 processors.

“It’s a combination of things that make MILO the best choice for an event of this scale and complexity,” T_nu Susi of Eventech tells PSN-e. “Being self-powered, MILO is easy to set up, and extremely powerful – but most importantly, like all Meyer Sound products, MILO is consistent and reliable. We know that each box will sound the same, and function properly. We wouldn’t trust an event of this importance to any other loudspeaker.”

“[Eventech’s Meyer] gear is impeccably maintained,” observed Meyer Sound associate Dave Dennison, who was on hand for the event. “After four years of unfavourable weather conditions, their MILO rig still looks and sounds great.”
