Meyer Sound’s Finnish ‘jazz odyssey’

test 24 June 2008

FINLAND: Meyer Sound equipment was in use at the April Jazz Espoo Festival, writes David Davies. Held in Finland, the 2008 event attracted performers including singer Angelique Kidjo, bassist Ron Carter and saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, accompanied by their respective ensembles, with other highlights including composer Maria Schneider conducting the Espoo Big Band.

The Festival’s largest venue, Tapiola Hall at Espoo Cultural Centre, was outfitted with two arrays of 12 M’elodie line array loudspeakers each. Low end was covered by six 700-HP subwoofers, while the main arrays were augmented by two UPA-2P loudspeakers (for infill) and eight MM-4 miniature loudspeakers (front-fill). System DSP and drive was handled by a Galileo loudspeaker management system.

In the same complex, the smaller Louhi Hall was the subject of a permanent installation comprising 16 M1D line array loudspeakers, four M1D-Sub subwoofers, two 650-P subwoofers and eight MM-4 loudspeakers.

“We are very, very happy with the system’s performance and the set-up and tuning performed by Meyer Sound’s technical personnel. The sound was excellent,” said event sound engineer Tuomo Matikka.
