MAMA takes advantage of Fineline finance for Avid suites

Fineline Media Finance has provided funding to MAMA Youth Project (MYP) to purchase two Avid Symphony edit suites as the charity upgrades its equipment to HD.

Each year, MYP, a registered charity, recruits and trains 48 disadvantaged young people aged between 16–25 in a range of core production skills, including research, camerawork, lighting and sound operation, location-finding, editing and production paperwork. As part of the training programme, participants work together to produce six episodes of What’s Up (pictured), a magazine-style programme which recently moved from Pick (formerly Sky 3) to Sky 1.

The Avid Media Composer Symphony systems, including hardware and monitors, are part of an upgrade that MYP says will allow the production to adhere to Sky 1 standards and ensure the trainees gain experience on the latest equipment.

This was the first time MYP had used finance to purchase equipment. “I had worked with Fineline before, for my own editing company,” comments Bob Clarke, founder and CEO of MAMA Youth Project. “Their knowledge of the industry gives them a unique understanding of our requirements, and the transaction has been very smooth.”

He adds: “We are committed to getting young people into employment… The content that our trainees produce is outstanding, and gives them a substantial taste of real-world production that makes them excellent candidates for employers.”

The charity estimates that eight out 10 of its trainees can expect to find work in the broadcast sector following the MYP training course.
