Major live music report to be discussed at Music Week conference11 September 2007
UK: Live & Direct, a conference organised by Music Week Events (part of PSNE publisher CMPi) in partnership with the Vodafone Live Music Awards, is to take place in London next week (September 19th). The event will provide the venue for leading market research bureau Mintel to unveil details from its brand new study of the UK live business, reports PSN-e.
The day of debate and discussion will begin with the Mintel presentation, which will draw on the results of the company’s Live Entertainment report. It will also look back at the results of its Music Concerts study from August last year.
The Mintel studies indicate that, in 2007, the UK live music market will be worth an estimated _743m in ticket sales alone following an explosion in the popularity of the sector. According to the company’s surveys, the proportion of adults attending music concerts grew by almost one-fifth between 2001 and 2006, from 32% to 38%. Mintel will also offer a demographic breakdown of live music’s most ardent fans, having established during research carried out this summer that those most attracted to live music were the 25-34 and 45-54 groupings, as well as those, living as married, who are heavy internet users, broadsheet newspaper readers and shoppers in Waitrose and M&S.
Live & Direct event will also host a series of panels, one of which will examine the controverseries of secondary ticketing and draw on contributions from Graham Burns (Association of Secondary Ticketing Agents), Eric Baker (Viagogo), Geoff Ellis (T in the Park/DF Concerts) and Nick Blackburn (See Tickets). Panellists set to discuss ‘why big is not always beautiful’ are Anton Lockwood (Rock City/DHP), Rob Hicks (Go North/Rock Ness), Tony Moore (Bedford Arms), Dave McGeachan (King Tut’s/Your Sound) and Andy Inglis (The Luminaire).
Through the Vodafone Live Awards partnership, all delegates attending the conference will receive a VIP pass for the evening’s awards at Brompton Hall, Earls Court. Delegates will be bussed to the ceremony courtesy of The Kings Ferry Travel Group. Ticketmaster and Travel By Appointment have also signed up as sponsors.
Live & Direct will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Marylebone, London on September 19th. To register and obtain more information, visit the website (link below). Enquiries should be directed to Imelda Bamford (email: firstname.lastname@example.org; tel: +44 (0)20 7921 8300).
