Mackie HDA

Nigel Lord 7 September 2010

What is it?A high-definition arrayable powered speaker designed for live sound and installed applications, allowing systems to grow as required for larger venues. DetailsDriven by 1.2kW of (peak) system power with a coverage pattern of 110° x 20°, the compact 2-way HDA is designed to be scalable to cover a wide range of applications. A full HDA flown system uses four HDA enclosures and two HD1801s sub-woofers per side. Ground stacked systems incorporate up to three HDAs on an HD1801 or flybar and pole-mounting is also possible with two HDAs on a tripod using dual-angle pole cups. The enclosure houses a 12” neodymium woofer with 3” voice coil plus dual Beyma 1.7” HF compression drivers with heat-treated titanium diaphragms. All transducers are custom designed by EAW. The LF and HF units are driven (respectively) by 500W and 100W RMS Class-D amplifiers incorporating ‘Fast Recovery’ circuitry designed reduce distortion at high power levels. Onboard processing includes Mackie’s patented acoustic correction technology plus transducer time alignment and phase correction. A three-way switch is included to offer simple array voicing and the design features integrated limiting and protection circuitry. Built from 15mm birch ply, the HDA enclosure weighs 26.7kg (59 lbs).
