Mackie becomes the exclusive PA system for ‘Guitar Hero III’

test 20 November 2007

US: Mackie has been named the exclusive PA system for Activision’s newly available ‘Guitar Hero III’ computer game. The company – whose Active Loudspeakers, including the SA Series, SR Series and SRM 450s, are utilised as floor wedges – joins the likes of Gibson, Marshall, Zildjian, DW and Audio-Technica in featuring in this latest instalment of the highly successful ‘Guitar Hero’ series, writes David Davies.

“Mackie has rocked stages for years and is now rocking virtual stages in ‘Guitar Hero III’,” commented Mackie brand vice-president John Boudreau. “This is a unique opportunity to expose the brand to young upcoming musicians.”

‘Guitar Hero III’ will go on the road for real – taking a genuine Mackie PA system with it – later in the year. The tour is scheduled to visit 10 cities and 40 locations, where gamers will compete to be their city’s resident Guitar Hero.

Mackie partnership manager Paul Audi tells PSN-e that appearing in the new game will help the brand appeal to the next generation of players. “As a guitar-focused game, some people have asked ‘why is Mackie involved?'” he admits. “Many ‘Guitar Hero’ enthusiasts are accomplished musicians who are really excited to see Mackie so prominently displayed. Other ‘GHIII’ players are youngsters destined to be the successful musicians of tomorrow. When they need a PA system, we want Mackie to be the name that comes to mind. Mackie is actively tapping into the many ‘new media channels’ that touch today’s customers. Print is great, but with websites, blogs, video games, social networks and more, there are so many new and exciting ways to expand the brand… and we’re just getting started.”
