Localband.com unveils a “global soundstage” for new musicians3 April 2007
UK: A new music community website offering a free platform for emerging, unsigned artists to promote their material locally, nationally and internationally made its debut recently. Supporting genres from R&B to classical, Localband.com – registration for which is free – aims to position performers, fans, venues and record companies on the same level playing field, writes David Davies.
While acknowledging that there are a number of other websites working in similar areas, Localband.com’s managing director, David Moore, tells PSN-e that the new service is the first to “cover all the stakeholders in the music creation process – artists, fans, venues and music industry personnel. We bring all four stakeholders together in one place and offer them specific functionality and different user experiences. [_] It’s taken a lot of hard work to get this far and the site has only just launched, but it is now that the hard work of building a community begins.”
For artists, the site can be used to find out valuable information about their fans, promote concerts, sell music online and even advertise for new band members. Music fans can gain access to new music, rate and review videos and MP3s, and make contact with likeminded fans.
For venues and record companies, meanwhile, there is the opportunity to make contact with potential performers and recording artists.
Specific site features including upload and promotional tools for performers, an events calendar enabling users to find out about events locally or in any area, and a facility to search the database by genre or location.
