Lab.gruppen adds to PLM range16 December 2008
UK: The PLM 14000 follows the successful PLM 10000Q Powered Loudspeaker Management system, writes David Davies. Built around a two-channel amplifier platform optimised for high power requirements, the PLM 14000 offers 7000W per channel at 2 ohms and 4350W per channel at 4 ohms.
The new system is said to be ideal for demanding subwoofer and low-end applications.
As with the existing four-channel PLM 10000Q, the new PLM 14000 integrates Dante networked audio distribution, Dolby Lake drive processing and load verification with real-time performance monitoring in a single 2U hardware unit plus unified software controller. While based on Lab.gruppen’s FP+ Series, the amplifier platform in the new system also includes a number of improvements, among them new circuitry that provides "substantially greater" current-carrying capabilities and a Regulated Switch Mode Power Supply that is optimised to deliver full power during long low-frequency bursts.
"PLM 14000, like the PLM 10000Q, offers a fully integrated solution that is more than the sum of its parts," commented Lab.gruppen’s head of marketing, Tim Chapman. "Comprising a full palette of processing tools from Dolby Lake, audio networking from Dante, plus load verification and performance monitoring – all built into Lab.gruppen’s unrivalled amplifier platform – PLM 14000 brings technical and operational benefits to both live touring and fixed installations in a new format tailored to extreme high-power applications."
Following the recent decision by Dolby to end standalone Lake processor production, Lab.gruppen’s PLM Series is now the exclusive hardware platform for new Lake processing. To read PSN-e’s coverage of Dolby’s move, click here.
