Kart-Fest 2017: the challenge is on!

Backup, the Technical Entertainment Charity, reports that this year’s annual live events industries’ karting day is now sold out.

“With 33 teams – that’s 200 drivers – plus all the non-drivers descending on Sandown Park at the end of June, it promises to be THE day out to celebrate skills, spills and the best-looking Hawaiian shirts the industry has seen,” says White Light/Backup’s Lee Dennison.

“From an audio perspective, this year’s event offers a mix of manufacturers, rental houses and end users that any normal CRM system would go ballistic for.” Representatives from Autograph (Sound and Sales), DiGiCo, Stage Electrics, Shure, Yamaha, CT Sound, Sennheiser, HARMAN, SFL, ASD and Audio-Technica plan to be in attendance. “They are there for the bragging rights to the trophy: there is no loyalty, no project registration, no allegiance. This is winner takes all!” declares Dennison.

With a 3-hour karting race, the F1 Pit stop challenge, live music, BBQ, a bucking bronco, a limbo competition, prizes and more, this year’s Kartfest is gearing up to be the biggest event for the charity, “and shows an amazing response from the industry,” notes Dennison.

Previous winners include production house Wonder Works (2016) (right) and crewing company Show Force (2015).

Ahead of this year’s race, Shure Distribution UK’s Tuomo Tolonen bragged: “This year, I’ve compiled a team as consistent as the 58 and when you’re staring at the back of my car on the starting grid be careful not blink or I’ll be gone as quick as you can say 700MHz.”

Meanwhile, an equally swaggersome Piers Shepperd of Wonder Works told PSNEurope: “We asked our technical team to try and illustrate how we keep getting onto the podium (in 2015 we came second as well as being first last year). They’ve been hard at work and came up with the diagram (right) which explains it all very well.”

Prepare for rubber, and reputations, to be burning on 29 June…
