IBC2014: DTS acquires Manzanita Systems12 September 2014
DTS, the American specialist in digital surround sound and high-definition audio, today announced that it has acquired Manzanita Systems, an industry-leading developer of MPEG software solutions for digital television, video on demand (VOD) and online over-the-top (OTT) markets.
DTS says the move is designed to enable the company to “offer greater value to its customers in those markets”. The company launched DTS UHD, its “ultra HD” object-based audio system for the emerging 4K television market, at last year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
“We are committed to growing our business in the network-connected media ecosystem, and believe that the acquisition of Manzanita Systems will help DTS further strengthen its position in the space,” said Geir Skaaden, Snr, vice-rresident of digital content and media solutions at DTS.
DTS further states that the acquisition will enable the company “to leverage Manzanita’s toolset offerings to more rapidly deploy new technologies into the market, broaden customer support capabilities and accelerate progress in the network-connected market”.
DTS’s plan for Manzanita is for the two companies to “provide industry-leading content packaging and delivery solutions for emerging media formats,” in turn supporting a greater alignment with recording studios, music labels and other audio content providers.
“As part of DTS, we will continue to offer the industry’s most advanced transport stream analysers and software multiplexer solutions,” adds Greg Vines, vice-president of product commercialisation for Manzanita. “Joining DTS allows us to take advantage of its much larger platform and scale to further develop our product portfolio and offer customers even greater value.”
DTS will be showcasing streaming demos featuring tools developed by Manzanita Systems at stand 2.B50 at IBC2014.
