Hackenbacker sold to Molinare after just 16 months with Halo

After less than 16 months as part of e-Post Media, the parent company of Halo Post Production, Hackenbacker has been acquired by rival Soho post facility Molinare. Speaking to PSNEurope, Halo chief executive John Rogerson described the deal as “commercially attractive”, echoing comments made to Broadcast in which he said the sale made “complete sense strategically and commercially”.

Hackenbacker’s portfolio includes Downton Abbey, Thunderbirds reboot Thunderbirds are Go and Richard Ayoade thriller The Double. The audio post-production studio’s founder, Nigel Heath, will remain a director and will join the group management alongside Julie Parmenter and Steve Milne of Molinare and private equity firms Next Wave Partners and Saphir Capital.

Halo acquired Hackenbacker in March 2014 (see Hackenbacker joins HALO post group). At the time, Rogerson described “having Nigel [Heath] and his team at the forefront of our drama sound operation” as “the fulfilment of a long-held ambition”.

The acquisition by Molinare will have no impact on the day-to-day operation of either facility or sound department.

“We are delighted that Nigel and the Hackenbacker team will be joining the Molinare group,” says Julie Parmenter, managing director of Molinare. “We have collaborated on many drama projects over the past three years, including The Musketeers and The 7.39, and with a combination of Molinare’s picture and sound talent alongside Hackenbacker’s audio specialists, this new partnership will expand our client offering greatly.”
