Three years after a major upgrade of Radio-Télévision Belge de la Communauté française (RTBF)’s television studios, the radio department of francophone Belgium’s public broadcaster has introduced the ‘FlexiProd’ solution, featuring 20 pairs of Genelec 8010 studio monitors, which aims to boost its production flexibility in preparation for hybrid ‘smart’ radio.

“The idea is to get journalists, presenters and engineers to work on their own production,” explains Hélène Ronveaux, head of RTBF’s radio and TV audio equipment team. In the self-operated studios, journalists and presenters will have the possibility to pre-record interviews with studio guests and include live interventions in the on-air programme.

“Apart from the fact that we already have [many] Genelec monitors in our broadcast studios, we specifically opted for the 8010-series speakers because of their compact size and pristine sound quality,” adds Ronveaux.

The speakers were supplied by Belgian Genelec distributor XLR. The Finnish manufacturer introduced the 8010 at the 2014 NAMM Show (see NAMM 2014: Genelec to showcase compact 8010 monitors).
