Funktion One, DPA, Proel reveal Frankfurt plans

This year’s edition of ProLight+Sound gets underway tomorrow (March 24) and here are some of the new products to look out for, reports David Davies. Due to run through until March 27 at the Frankfurt Musikmesse, PL+S 2010 will see new products from Allen & Heath, Cadac, CEDAR Audio, DPA, Funktion One, Milab, Proel and many others. Funktion One is to show no fewer than three major new products at PL+S. The F101 loudspeaker enclosure (pictured) comprising 1 x 10” bass/mid driver and 1” high frequency device is a larger version of the successful F81. It is said to offer exceptional clarity and imaging with a sensitivity of101dB for 1 watt at 1 metre, which Funktion One describes as “unprecedented” for this class of loudspeaker. The F101 fills a niche between the F81 and the Resolution 1, being ideal for anything from a Studio reference monitor to AV presentations and theatre. The UK-based company will also show the Resolution 3 – an all-in-one 3-way enclosure comprising a special horn loaded 18” bass loudspeaker with 5” voice coil, a new Axhead loaded 10” loudspeaker for mid-range and a 1” compression driver for high frequencies – as well as the ASPC1 audio system polarity checker for use by live sound and installation engineers as they optimise high performance audio systems. In addition to its stand presence (8.G94), Funktion One will also be conducting demos in Room Dialog 9.2 between Halls 8 and 9 on the second floor. Funktion One’s Ann Andrews tells PSN-e that the company’s demo room has become “a bit of a legend”, adding: “For many years audio enthusiasts from around the world have joined us for an informal and informative time, listening to both the familiar and the unfamiliar through crystal clear Funktion One loudspeakers and engaging in interesting conversation. We look forward to welcoming you to the new location, Room Dialog, where the larger space will allow for the sound to more fully develop, making for an even more enjoyable Funktion One listening experience.” Elsewhere on the show-floor, Allen & Heath will present two new additions to the Xone DJ range. The Xone:PB patchbay is a 1U rack size passive interface box, designed to simplify the task of connecting encoded vinyl replay systems to installed mixers without the need to re-patch, providing a quick and easy solution to set changes in busy club line-ups. The company will also show the Xone XD-40 headphones, which feature 40mm neodymium drivers, 40 ohm impedance, 103dB sensitivity, a 15Hz-28kHz frequency response and a weight of 220g. Cadac will highlight the theatre/live sound-oriented S-Digital Mixing System and the ‘budget’ LIVE1 console. The manufacturer will also highlight a new series of outboard processors, which is commencing with the ME2 dual-channel mic pre-amplifier mixer/EQ, featuring analogue outs and a digital I/O and networking interface. Cadac will also give PL+S visitors an opportunity to take a look at the iconic Ronnie Lane Mobile Studio, which has been refurbished with a classic Cadac Concert Series console. CEDAR Audio is to present CEDAR DNS One and CEDAR Cambridge V6 for the first time at a European trade show. A Pro Tools plug-in that runs on both MAC OS X and Windows, DNS One is said to offer “everything you ever wanted from a software-based dialogue noise suppressor”. CEDAR Cambridge V6, meanwhile, brings a series of additions to the audio tool system, including Action List in the batch processor, three new ‘track’ processes and a new Adaptive Limiter. D.A.S. Audio is to expand its Avant Series of powered portable systems with a new horn-bass low frequency system, the Avant 118A. The Spanish manufacturer will also show the latest addition to its Aero Series 2 range of line arrays – the Aero 8A, featuring a third generation Class D power amplifier and DSP – as well as two new subwoofers for its LX line: the LX-212 and LX-215. Exhibiting with its German distributor, Mega Audio, DPA Microphone will show the latest additions to the 4099 range of clip microphones: the 4099B for bass and 4099C for cello. DPA will also give stand visitors the chance to enter a prize draw to win a 4099 of their choice, an IMK4061 instrument miking kit and a host of promotional items. Focal Professional is to unveil a new studio monitor, title TBA. Focal’s Nicolas Debard tells PSN-e that the monitor “will be the most compact and affordable we have ever made”, and will be a “perfect” product for MI dealers. “It will also allow us to extend our distribution network,” he adds. Acoustic panel manufacturer Jocavi is to show a “revolutionary” new product, TwoFX. The new acoustic treatment panel features two entirely different faces: a diffusion face and an absorption face, with no similarities. A fixing system in the middle of the panel allows users to change from one face to the other. Especially suitable for one-room recording studios that operate in several different configurations, TwoFX is available in several colours for both faces. Meanwhile, from the ATP brand, there will be a brand new accessory line. Milab will showcase a side-addressed large membrane microphone that goes by the moniker of DC96C. Designed mainly for studio work, but also for many live applications, the DC-96C is an update of the classic DC96 series. Cardioid-only and featuring a single layer mesh, the mic offers a large rectangular condenser capsule, 12 dB attenuation pad, 144 dB max SPL and gold-plated XLR connector. It is shipped with individual frequency chart, windscreen and stand adapter. Proel is to showcase three sound reinforcement solutions: active EDGE, NET and XENIA. Suitable for professional high-power applications, the active EDGE range includes five models: two medium-sized speaker systems (C12A and C15A), two stage monitors (12CXA and 15CXA), and a 21” direct radiating subwoofer. The new NET series – designed with a focus on those factors which “make a speaker really valuable” – includes four full-range models (active and passive versions) and a bi-amplified stage monitor with coaxial speaker. Finally, the XENIA speakers are aimed at install applications and incorporate high-definition dome tweeters and high-efficiency woofers. For more Frankfurt product news, see the April edition of Pro Sound News Europe.
