Flare Audio has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise awareness of its new “distortion-free” Reference series of in-ear and over-ear headphones and make them available for wider retail.

Investors in the crowdfunding campaign may purchase one of three in-ear R2 models (pictured), or the R1 Mk2 over-ear model, at an introductory price that will revert to full SRP at 8pm on 3 June, when it closes.

The British loudspeaker and headphone manufacturer, founded less than three years ago, has already received a number of ringing endorsements from music industry luminaries, including producers Flood and Chris Kimsey (The Rolling Stones, INXS, Yes, ELP) and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.

Page recently introduced the 40th-anniversary playback of Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti on Olympic Studios’ Flare system, describing the speakers as “a sound system extraordinaire. It’s absolutely magnificent.” On the R2s, Kimsey comments: “I’m rediscovering recorded music on a truly epic scale. The sound of the R2 is out of this world: quite simply staggering[ly] big sound in an unbelievably small earphone.”

Flare Audio CEO Davies Roberts says: “We’re using Kickstarter to raise awareness of this new technology that delivers not only a totally unique listening experience but with it a new approach to earphone design.

“Our work providing quality sound to the professional audio industry, supported by independent testing, has proven Flare products really deliver what they promise. This campaign will enable us to launch a range of products to the consumer market and bring this technological advancement to the general public.”

PSNEurope interviewed Roberts, who explained the science Flare’s groundbreaking Vortex and Space technologies, in August 2013 (see Flare necessities: EXCLUSIVE interview with Davies Roberts).
