Norwegian rental company Rubicon AS has purchased a rig comprising 20 MLA top boxes, 12 MLX subs and four MLD downfill enclosures.

The equipment was provided via local distributor em nordic AS.

Undoubtedly one of the headline launches of 2010, Martin Audio’s Multi-Cellular Loudspeaker Array has been showcased at trade shows and live events (such as a Belgian Amnesty International event covered by PSNE here).

The Rubicon purchase follows system investments by Complete Audio of Germany and North Carolina-based Special Event Services (SES), the latter recently adding a second system to its existing MLA arsenal.

Based in Oslo, Rubicon has a long association with both em nordic and Martin Audio. em nordic’s Øystein Wierli (pictured, right, with Rubicon’s Roar Ånestad) first made Rubicon aware of the MLA after its first demo at London’s Earls Court, initiating a series of discussions about upgrading the company’s main PA that subsequently saw Rubicon head of sound Roar Ånestad attend a demo/presentation in Antwerp. A seminar led by Martin Audio R&D director Jason Baird during PLASA 2010 provided the final piece in the jigsaw.

Rubicon will be able to divide the newly purchased rig into two separate systems when required, allowing the company to cater to large venues (like the 9,000-seat Oslo Spektrum) with one single system, and smaller ones with a scaled-down rig. Martin Audio will support Rubicon with hands-on system training and tour support during the initial period, after which Øystein Wierli and his team at em nordic will take over.
