Elysia Alpha adds to magic of Alchemy

London-based Alchemy Mastering has recently taken delivery of the Elysia Alpha mastering compressor from dealer Unity Audio.

Alchemy Mastering is one of the UK’s foremost mastering facilities, having been founded some 20 years ago by Barry Grint (pictured), who has worked with Madonna, Simply Red, Prince, a-ha and Rod Stewart, and at facilities including Tape One, Porky’s and Abbey Road. Grint’s handiwork can be heard on Oasis’ 1995 classic (What’s the Story?) Morning Glory.

The Alpha stereo compressor is a professional dynamics processor, offering M/S processing, parallel compression, limiting, sidechain and audio filters and more.

Grint says: “After significant investment in mains treatment, cables and so on, we are being equally selective with our equipment choices. I am delighted to have the flexibility and transparency the Alpha offers. You tend to see the same equipment in every mastering room; we want to offer something fresh.”
