DiGiCo completes MBO

EXCLUSIVE: A management buyout finalised on July 7th has seen a new-look management team take the reins at digital mixing console developers DiGiCo. The team now comprises managing director James Gordon, chief executive Bob Doyle, marketing director David Webster, technical director John Stadius and company secretary Helen Culleton (pictured here with Stadius), reports David Davies.

“We’ve always been a reactive and pro active company that understands the marketplace we’re in,” says Gordon, who took over from Doyle as MD in February. “However, when you have external investors, there is a need to explain the ins and outs of decision-making processes and that can slow things down. The management buyout removes that requirement and means we can focus more of our time on doing what we do best, making us an even more agile and focused company.”

In addition to a number of as-yet undisclosed plans, DiGiCo is now set to introduce a share incentive scheme for its employees. Notes Gordon: “It’s nice that as a modern company we’re able to reward the people that work with us and put in the extra time. We have a lot of staff that work 24/7 for the benefit of this company and they will now be able to share in the success with us fully.

“The potential of what we can achieve with the technology we have within the company, both current and future, is amazing. The enthusiasm and drive for success that has got us this far is back to where it was when we started in 2002.”

Speaking to PSN-e earlier this year in the wake of a period that saw a positive response to the D5 Live V4 combined software and hardware upgrade, Gordon expanded upon DiGiCo’s inherent strengths in a fast-changing pro-audio landscape. “As a small company we’re able to react more quickly,” he observed. “It’s one of our advantages that we intend to exploit a lot more as we move into a more competitive market_ Currently all the new arrivals in the live digital console sector are based around either older or similar DSP designs to our products. So I guess that means as one of the pioneers in live digital mixing we got something right just a little earlier than the followers.”
