The sound system for the April event was provided by London AV rental services company Media Powerhouse. Working with live event specialist H2 Business Communications (H2) for the second year in a row, Media Powerhouse delivered a spec that included d&b line array systems, a Yamaha Digital PM5D sound desk, Shure Type R radio mics and a Yamaha LS9 on monitors. Held at London’s Hilton Park Lane Hotel on April 15, the Music Week Awards 2010 saw honours bestowed on Abbey Road (Studio of the Year), Paul Epworth (Producer of the Year – pictured, left) and Capital Sound (Live Production Team of the Year). Gary Barlow, Dizzee Rascal and Duffy all made guest appearances at the MWA event, which was hosted by comedian Stephen K Amos. “Having worked on similar events, we were conscious of the challenges and deadlines H2 was up against,” said Media Powerhouse account manager Howard Jenkins. “We started the planning stages early to identify any potential problems and the solutions needed. That is why customers can depend on our expertise to ensure that their projects are on time and on budget.” Reflecting on the overall importance of the awards event sector, Jenkins tells PSNE: “Each year, we work on over 40 awards on behalf of our production clients providing sound and video services to music and entertainment sector events like the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and the Music Week Awards. Whether it is a conference, award ceremony or full systems integration, they all get the same high level of expertise from our team coupled with a total technical solution.”
