Cooper forms new consulting initiative30 April 2010
UK: David Cooper has announced that he is leaving his post of sales and marketing director at Midas and Klark Teknik to form his own consulting company, writes Dave Robinson.
"I’m absolutely thrilled to be in a position to now offer my services to other manufacturers," says Cooper. "Fronting Midas’ exceptional sales and marketing team for nearly 20 years has been an honour and a pleasure but over the last few months I’ve had a strong desire to be in charge of my own destiny. At Midas, we’ve had some good times; we’ve had some great times, but if I don’t do it now, I never will."
Cooper says the philosophy of his enterprise, David Cooper Consulting, is to provide "focused, long-term sales and brand management services to an exclusive number of pro-audio manufacturers".
However, Cooper will not be breaking ties with his former employer. "It seems it is possible to have your cake and eat it," he remarks. "I’m delighted to announce that Midas and Klark Teknik are the first clients of David Cooper Consulting, which will exclusively represent both brands in Asia."
Cooper goes on: "I’ll be helping Midas to make the partnership between the manufacturer and our distribution partners in Asia even stronger. I can focus on creating the right conditions to ensure everything is in place to maximise Midas’ business over there. The goal I have set myself is to make the Asian region the most important sales region for Midas globally.
"Not easy, but we’ll have a go!"
The 40-year-old says he is not looking for new clients solely in Asian territories.
"Asia was a specific area that Midas wanted me to take care of for them but I’ve been looking after sales globally for many years and can offer value to other pro-audio manufacturers in any region or on a global basis.
John Oakley, managing director of Midas Klark Teknik, says, "I am incredibly sad to see David leave the company after all he has done for our brands and his record speaks for itself. However in equal measure we are delighted to start using the services of David Cooper Consulting and fully expect a mutually beneficial, long-term relationship."
Cooper emphasises that his decision was not accelerated by changes at a senior level. , "There will be speculation that my departure has something to do with the new owners of Midas Klark Teknik [Uli Behringer and the Music Group] but this could not be further from the truth.
"We’ve built strong foundations for the brand and I would wager that Midas will go from strength to strength under its new ownership.
"I have nothing but optimism for the future success and growth of Midas and Klark Teknik business on a global basis."
+ John Oakley added that Midas Klark Teknik are currently "reorganising internally", so while there are definite plans to fill David Cooper’s role, they are not on a "like-for-like" basis.
