Calrec and ALC NetworX enter into Ravenna partnership

Munich-based R&D company ALC NetworX has announced that it has entered into a RAVENNA partnership with British broadcast audio console manufacturer, Calrec.

The announcement has been made after the publication of the AES67 Standard on High-performance Audio-over-IP Streaming Interoperability, which is in line with the operating principles of RAVENNA.

The news of the partnership also follows the announcement of the acquisition of Calrec Audio, by private equity firm Electra Partners, for £14m ($23m).

Technical director for Calrec Patrick Warrington (pictured left), explains: “The excellent work by the AES’s X192 committee in its publication of AES67 has given the AoIP project a huge boost, allowing different manufacturers to design interfaces that they are confident will work with other manufacturers’ equipment. ALC NetworX’s involvement in drafting AES67 means RAVENNA interfaces will be directly compatible with AES67 equipment.”

Senior product manager of ALC NetworX, Andreas Hildebrand (right) adds: “The increasing interest in the new AES67 interoperability standard just underlines the demand for open media networking standards. With every new manufacturer that comes on board, the appeal of RAVENNA is broadened exponentially. Beyond already being compatible with AES67, RAVENNA offers manufacturers such as Calrec the pivotal freedom and flexibility to adopt the technology to their individual platforms or to add specific functionality as required.”

In related news, audio and video metering specialist DK-Technologies has fulfilled the first orders for its new DK T7 Audio and Loudness meter, which was launched at IBC last year. The DK T7 began shipping in February with the first two units delivered to UK console manufacturer Calrec. These have now been fitted into 48-fader Artemis Light consoles for Al Jazeera in London.

DK-Technologies’ product marketing director, Uffe Kjems Hansen, says: “The DK T7 is exactly what the market needs – a cost-effective audio meter with an easy to use multi-touch interface that delivers a whole host of useful features at a very cost effective price.”

“The DK T7 is the most complete, high precision Audio and Loudness meter on the market today – and the most honest because it does not involve any hidden costs,” adds Kjems Hansen.
