BVE puts emphasis on sound9 February 2011
Audio will have a high profile during next week’s Broadcast Video Expo (BVE) in London, with the UK launch of the Stagetec On Air 24 among the highlights, writes Kevin Hilton.
Also on show at Earl’s Court 2 will be products from Eyeheight, Canford, Glensound and Riedel, with the seminar programme covering sound recording, FPGA fixed point architecture for mixing consoles and loudness.
The technology aspect of BVE has increased considerably in recent years, with audio staking its claim along side video. Stagetec’s On Air 24 (pictured) gets its first UK showing on the Aspen Media stand. Designed for radio presentation and production studios, this digital console works in conjunction with the Nexus networking system.
Loudness continues to dominate. Eyeheight is introducing the KARMAudioAU plug for OS X-run systems. This enables material to be processed offline for target loudness and peak programme levels. Two conference sessions are dedicated to loudness: Karsten Hansen of DK-Technologies looks at the subject in general, while Mike Kahsnitz from RTW will discuss implementing the EBU R128 recommendations.
Products making a debut at BVE include the Beachtek DXA-5DA audio pro-interface, shown by Canford. This allows professional mics with balanced XLR outputs to be connected to digital SLR cameras using 3.5mm jack inputs.
Glensound is showing the CUT and PASTE coupler and balancing unit combination, which gives balanced outputs from standard telephone lines. The Orban range continues to grow, with PRECO introducing the OPTIMOD-FM 8600 digital audio processor, while Riedel has new software for the MediorNet.
The Audio Room seminars feature Patrick Warrington of Calrec Audio looking at FPGA fixed architecture for consoles, a panel session on sound recording with Andy Payne from SIS LIVE and freelancer Simon Bishop, plus an outline of the potential future for wireless microphones.
