Bonham, Smith & Satriani for LIMS

test 10 June 2008

UK: Jason Bonham is to pick up sticks at the London International Music Show, writes David Davies. Housing four distinctly different shows – Drummer Live, the London Guitar Show, Unplugged 08 and Sound Recording Technology – under one roof at the Excel Centre, LIMS 2008 is also set to feature appearances from the likes of Chad Smith, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen and – but of course! – Peter Andre.

Drummer Live will actually mark the first drum festival appearance from Jason Bonham (pictured), whose day job as sticksman with Foreigner has lately been rather overshadowed by his role in the one-off Led Zeppelin reunion last December. Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Ray Luzier (Korn) and Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree and shortly to tour as part of a new ‘double-drummer’ line-up of King Crimson) are among the other major names set to show.

Over at the London Guitar Show, a veritable panoply of special guests will include Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani and Paul Gilbert. The event will also mark the first live performance of C3, a new band comprising Richie Kotzen, Guthrie Govan and Jamie Humphries.

Other notable live sets at this year’s LIMS will include an appearance by the RD Crusaders, an unlikely supergroup that brings together Steve Harley, Peter Andre, Lulu, Simon Townshend, Robert Hart, Russ Ballard, Rick Wills, Steve Smith and Richard Desmond with the express purpose of raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Meanwhile, the four-hall Unplugged 08 show will feature a dedicated unplugged stage and performances from artists as disparate as Courtney Pine and Chas & Dave.

Finally, to update on PSN-e’s recent coverage of the Sound Recording Technology show (read here ), it has been announced that the seminar programme will examine topics including ‘Apple & Music Production’, ‘Pro Tools Tips & Techniques’, ‘The Loudness War’ and ‘Operating and Optimising PA Systems’.

LIMS 2008 begins this Wednesday and concludes on Sunday. The ticket hotline is +44 (0)1353 660780. For the full schedule of stage performances, click on the second link below.
