BEIRG Steering Group joins business network site

test 28 July 2009

UK: To assist communication about the forthcoming spectrum reallocation, the BEIRG Steering Group has established an Information Group on LinkedIn. BEIRG is particularly keen to involve rental companies, freelance sound engineers and other individuals/companies who currently own wireless equipment in channels 61-69, but would also like to hear from companies operating in channels 31-37.

As reported by PSN-e on numerous occasions during the last few years, the UK spectrum map is to be redrawn in order to clear the way for an international mobile telephone band. The PMSE sector is set to lose access to its present spectrum allocation, and as yet no firm replacement has been announced, although Ofcom did recently announce that there would be financial assistance for PMSE users obliged to migrate from channel 69.

Those interested in accessing the BEIRG Group on LinkedIn can sign up for free at the business network website (first link below).

BEIRG Steering Group member and Sennheiser UK business development specialist Alan March (pictured) placed the move in the context of a fast-moving period for PMSE users and manufacturers. "In the coming weeks we will be asking the industry to supply figures for equipment that they own that will be rendered useless or that will need expensive modification as a result of the impending spectrum changes," he said. "If people do not come forward and respond to this, then it greatly reduces their prospect of being able to secure the funding that they are eligible for. The LinkedIn site is ideal for this purpose. It has been noticeable just how many more people within the industry are now using this service, and the interactive nature of it makes it an ideal platform for two-way communication."
