AudioScience adds to AVnu-certified product list

As anticipated by AVnu Alliance chairman Rick Kreifeldt in the autumn of last year, digital developer AudioScience has revealed its first official contribution to the AVB-ready equipment portfolio. The Delaware-based company announced this week that its Hono AVB Mini range of DSP-driven I/O units have been certified by the AVnu Alliance.

The Hono AVB Mini series includes four products: the Hono AVB 4.4M/2.2M, with four/two (respectively) line inputs/outputs with studio quality mic preamps; plus the 4.4D/2.2D with four/two (respectively) channels of AES/EBU input/output. The 4.4M is shown here.

The IEEE 1722.1 Discovery and Control protocol allows the Hono units to be configured using third-party AVB Controllers. DSP functionality includes a parametric equaliser and compander/limiter on the inputs and programmable delays on the outputs, as well as full matrix-mixing.

Richard Gross, president of AudioScience – a business specialising in the design of peripherals for the installation and broadcast industries for nearly 20 years – said: “AVnu certification represents the culmination of many years of hard work by our engineering team on our AVB hardware and software. AVnu certification will give our customers confidence that when they choose one of our AVB products they know they are buying something that will interoperate with other AVnu certified AVB devices.”

In terms of the timescale of additions to the AVnu-certified product range, the AudioScience debut comes at a relative gallop after mid-January’s confirmation of certification of Meyer Sound’s CAL column array speaker. The Hono range brings the total number of product lines with certification since the AVnu process began to still only four (Extreme Networks’ Summit X440 Series switches and the Crown DCi Network Display series amplifiers being the remaining two).
