APRS prepares for 2008 Sound Fellowships

test 30 September 2008

UK: The APRS Sound Fellowships will be announced at the organisation’s Annual Lunch in November, writes David Davies. Focusrite is one of the main sponsors of the Association of Professional Recording Services event, which will feature a special guest speaker in the form of legendary former Yes keyboardist, solo artist and Grumpy Old Man TV regular Rick Wakeman (pictured).

The APRS Sound Fellowships were inaugurated at last year’s Annual Lunch with honours for Alan Parsons, Glyn Johns, Chris Blackwell, Sean Davies, Keith Grant and Ken Townsend. This year, the entire APRS membership has been involved in nominating candidates for the six annual Fellowship awards, although the final decisions will be made by the APRS Board and the APRS Awards Academy. An announcement regarding the recipients is expected shortly.

“The purpose of the APRS Sound Fellowship is to recognise individuals who have made a special contribution to the art, science and business of recording,” APRS executive director Peter Filleul tells PSN-e. “There are no categories as such, just a very open approach that reflects the broad pro-audio church that the APRS represents. Last year we seemed to have focused on engineers of one kind or another, but the field is open also to producers, manufacturers, inventors, designers and even artists who have brought particular innovation to the development of recorded sound_ I have even seen a couple of journalists mentioned.”

Filleul adds that Parsons will be formally presented with his award during a British Trade and Industry Consul presentation at the AES Convention later this week.

The Annual Lunch – to be held at the Roof Gardens, Kensington, London on Wednesday November 19th – will also witness the debut of the new APRS Handbook. Tickets for the event cost _85 + VAT for APRS members and _110 + VAT for non-APRS members. Enquiries should be directed to Francesca Smith at APRS (tel: 01803 868600; email:
