Angell Sound, LipSync’s Paul Cotterell among the Conch 09 winners

UK: The Conch Sound Awards 2009 took place in central London last week, writes PSN-e. The annual celebration of British audio talent honoured projects, people and facilities from the commercial, film and TV industries, with Slumdog Millionaire and Quantum of Solace among the many high-profile recipients.

The films were victorious in the two Film Soundtrack categories (under and over _10m, respectively), while Quantum… also went on to pick up the Best Foley Award as well as achieving recognition for Eddy Joseph and Mike Prestwood-Smith as Film Sound Editor and Film Re-Recording Mixer, respectively.

Other recipients of The Conch’s many categories included LipSync’s Paul Cotterell (TV Dubbing Mixer of the Year), Evolutions (pictured, Audio on TV Entertainment for Top Gear), Bang Post Production (Audio on TV Drama for Doctor Who), Simon Hayes (Production Sound Mixer of the Year), Angell Sound (Commercial Facility) and Molinare (Best Film Facility). As reported on last week’s PSN-e (read here, there was also a Fellowship Award for legendary recording engineer Keith Grant.

"It’s been a fantastic year for British audio," said Gaynor Davenport, CEO of The Conch’s parent organisation, UK Screen Association. "Tonight was about celebrating what a great sound industry we have in this country by honouring the many deserving people whose passion and abilities for audio makes this industry such a joy to be a part of. Congratulations to everyone who made this such a special event and I look forward to next year!"
