AKG D12 VR

AKG D12 VR

What is it? An upgraded version of the classic D12 microphone, developed specifically for bass drum applications in both live and studio environments.   Details The dynamic D12 VR (vintage sound re-issue) houses a thin diaphragm within its newly-designed capsule, designed to enhance low-frequency performance. With phantom power disabled, the D12 VR accurately captures the audio character of the sound source; with phantom power enabled, one of three switchable active-filter presets can be used to adapt the mic’s response to the desired drum sound characteristic: open kick drum, closed kick drum and ‘vintage’. According to AKG, the redesigned D12 VR gives drums a vintage, yet crisp and modern sound, using the original AKG C414 transformer from the 1970s to enhance audio signals significantly – especially at high signal levels – and cancelling the effect of impedance differences with the connected input.   And another thing… The quoted frequency response of the D12 VR is 17Hz – 17kHz (+/12db) at maximum SPLs of 164dB.
