AES Convention Live Sound event schedule revealed7 August 2007
US: The Live Sound event programme at the 123rd AES Convention will incorporate sessions on houses of worship audio and sound system alignment & measurement, among other subjects. The Convention is scheduled to take place at New York’s Javits Center from October 5th to 8th, reports PSN-e.
Put together by Live Sound event co-chairs John Kilgore (recording engineer/sound designer) and Henry Cohen (president of Production Radio Rentals, pictured), the programme will commence with a three-hour panel session on “the many obstacles in HOW [houses of worship] audio and what we can (and cannot) do about them”. It will be chaired by Electroacoustic Design Services’ Tom Young.
Other topics set for discussion by expert panels include concert sound system design, set-up and operation, and the creative use of digital mixing technology; large scale multichannel, multi-system wireless design, deployment and operation; and the technological challenges and variations of traditional Broadway theatres and “the next generation Las Vegas live show room”.
Meanwhile, a panel session on sound system alignment and acoustic measurement will draw on input from, among others, JBL Professional’s Ted Leamy, DBDave Audio/Meyer Sound Labs’ ‘Decibel’ Dave Dennison, Alignment & Design Inc’s Bob McCarthy, and Digidesign’s Robert Scovill. The moderator will be Sam Berkow of SIA Acoustics.
Elsewhere, Shure’s Edgar Reihle and other key industry figures will consider the current outlook for license-free broadband devices in the UHF TV spectrum, and John Kilgore will interview acclaimed theatre sound designer Abe Jacob.
“Live Sound is an integral component of the AES Convention, and one of the most colourful as well,” said Roger Furness, AES’ executive director. “We are fortunate to have such dedicated and highly qualified co-chairs on this year’s committee. There is an old adage that says ‘if you want something done right go to a busy man’. John Kilgore and Henry Cohen lend real world authority to that axiom.”
