4HM: SAM64 to Swiss broadcaster, new MADI products at IBC

4HM has announced it is providing its unique SAM64 SDI to MADI and AES audio interfaces for use in five satellite news gathering trucks owned by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR) based in Bern. The five trucks are being upgraded by German satellite broadcast and communications specialist ND SatCom based in Immenstaad.   “The first of the five trucks has already been upgraded and all are to receive a SAM64 as part of a major refit to their capabilities. The SAM64 was chosen because is provides a cost and space efficient solution to de-embedding up to 4 SDI streams simultaneously,” said Johannes Schlieszus, broadcast engineer at ND SatCom. “Each unit also comes as standard with an in built redundant power supply providing the resilience essential for outside broadcast use.”   When completed, the refitted trucks will provide the backbone of the Swiss broadcaster’s national news gathering fleet.   Meanwhile, 4HM is preparing to launch their latest development, a MADI monitor, at IBC. The as yet to be named 4HM MADI monitor will be capable of monitoring up to 64 audio channels and is reported to feature ‘a comprehensive range of MADI facilities’. The full specifications for the new product will be announced at the show.   Alongside the new monitor 4HM will be also showing the aforementioned SAM64 SDI/AES to MADI interface and the company’s comprehensive range of breakouts, interfaces and converters for multi-format AES and MADI audio streams.   The 4HM range also includes the aforementioned SAM64, a cost-effective solution to the problem of connecting audio equipment to SDI-based infrastructure and taking up only 1U of rack space. The SAM64 provides the interface between SDI video bitstreams and digital audio.   SAM64 extracts 16 audio channels from each of the unit’s four SDI inputs to provide a total of 64 audio channels in both MADI and AES3 formats. All SDI inputs independently auto-sense between 3G, HD and SD standards and are provided with loop-through connectivity for downstream equipment.   www.4hmbroadcast.com
